Neck pain may be localized to the neck itself – the cervical spine – or may also radiate down the arm. Neck pain is most commonly the result of poor mechanics, injury or overuse and the neck is a common site for osteoarthritis. Traditional recommendations for treatment include hot and cold therapy, pain medications (NSAIDS), simple and careful movement, massage, stress reduction, and very rarely surgery1.

How the Gokhale MethodSM can help

You can learn to lengthen and straighten the cervical spine to restore structural integrity to the area.

This allows adequate space for the discs and healthy circulation and nerve function in the neck.

Arching the neck compresses
the cervical discs, causing degeneration and related problems.

A tucked pelvis distorts the
shape of the spine, and often leads to forward projection
of the neck.

An anteverted pelvis permits a healthy stacking of the entire spine including the neck.

It is also important to address excessive curvature in the thoracic spine as this leads to forward projection of the neck. And it all starts with a well-aligned pelvis. Once the pelvis is well-aligned, the rest of the spine, including the cervical spine, will stack up erect and relaxed.

Where can I learn more?

The positioning of the neck is specifically addressed in Session 1 of the Gokhale MethodSM 101 course, and in Lesson 1 of the book, 8 Steps to a Pain-Free Back. However, all sections of the course (and the book) are relevant to achieving a healthy stacking of the entire spine.
