With a tucked pelvis, the pyriformis muscle and other muscles around the hip joint, can become abnormally oriented or contracted. Since the pyriformis lies directly over the sciatic nerve just as it exits the pelvis via the sciatic notch, this can result in pain and dysfunction along the distribution of the sciatic nerve. Restoring normal pelvic configuration gives this muscle a chance to relax appropriately, and perform its function as an external hip rotator without impinging the sciatic nerve.
You can learn how to restore normal pelvic configuration in a way that gives the piriformis muscle a chance to relax appropriately, and perform its function as an external hip rotator without impinging on the sciatic nerve.
You can learn how to restore your pelvis to a healthy position in Sessions 2, 3, and 5 of the Gokhale MethodSM 101 course, and in Lessons 2, 4, 6, and 8 of the book, 8 Steps to a Pain-Free Back. |
