Sciatica occurs when there is pressure on the sciatic nerve, usually from a herniated disc. The symptoms may be numbness, tingling, burning and/or pain (which many describe as shock-like). It usually affects one side of the body, extending from the buttock down the leg, and sometimes as far as the foot1. Sciatica most frequently occurs in people between the ages of 40 and 602.

How the Gokhale MethodSM can help

The changes you will learn in posture and movement are similar to the approach we use for bulging and herniated discs: you will develop ways of sitting, standing, sleeping, walking and bending that restore the natural stacking of your spine. Decompressing the spinal discs usually relieves pressure on the nerve roots of L1-L5, the levels of the spinal column from which the sciatic nerve arises.

Where can I learn more?

Health of the spine is central to our Method, and is addressed in all parts of the Gokhale MethodSM 101 course, and in all chapters of the book, 8 Steps to a Pain-Free Back.
